Community Involvement

Karako Communications International is a socially responsible company seeking to propose community projects that are grounded in a spirit of generosity, respect for all human beings, love, and compassion.

As a Haitian company, we are committed to sharing ideas and resources to ensure our advancement as a people. Our history is full of examples of collaboration and grace under pressure. From time to time, we will invite our visitors to participate in memorable community projects. We believe that, to coexist gracefully, we need to develop a sincere sense of commitment to improving living conditions for all.

Haiti Projects

Write a Prayer for Haiti! Yes, a Prayer for Haiti!

Write a Prayer for Haiti! is one of our community projects. Yes, you have heard right. We are asking that you write an invocation to God (a Higher Power) about Haiti. You know better than anyone exactly what to wish for Haiti. Please email us your prayer at info@kci1804.com; we will publish it on our site and in book form. If you prefer to mail your prayer, please send it to : Karako Communications International, P.O.Box 25802, Tamarac, FL 33320. For more information, please email us at the above email address or call us at 954-889-7787.

Note:  If a native of any other country is interested in writing a prayer for Haiti, we will be grateful for his/her gesture of solidarity. Hope is universal.

Let's create a Hope Quilt for Haiti!

This project indicates our willingness to contribute to the circle of hope that is surrounding Haiti.

What: We are inviting our visitors to send a square to add to a community quilt, as we release positive thoughts toward Haiti.

How: 1. For your fabric, we suggest that you choose muslin or cotton, cut into 12x12 inch squares. Please make sure the size is correct. Your information will be kept inside the square's border.  Choose any color you want (we hope to end up with a colorful quilt!).

You may write a poem on your square ,add a picture, a piece of cloth with sentimental value, part of a speech, a wedding invitation, an obituary, a birth announcement, or anything that truly conveys a sense of hope to you.  Once we receive your square, we will add it to the quilt. Make sure your name and telephone number are legible. Please send your quilt square to: KCI, P.O. Box 25802, Tamarac, FL 33320 and indicate your location( Haiti, US, Canada ,France, Venezuela, Brazil, etc.).

          2. Wash the fabric  before using it (to allow it to shrink to real size).

          3. If you want to draw with markers, it is important to use fabric markers. If you prefer fabric crayons, iron the squares afterward.

Why: From ancient to modern times, quilts have been used to provide comfort, tell family stories, connect people with their past, and stand as a symbol of continuity.  Strong quilting traditions may be traced to medieval Europe and America. It is important to note that quilting transcended racial and social barriers in the United States.  Both white and black Americans, and people of varying social levels, are connected through that activity.

Making this quilt may be just what we need to regain our spirit of sisterhood and brotherhood. Do you remember some of our grandmothers' bed coverings in appliqué or patchwork?

Note: If someone from a different ethnic background has a tie with Haiti (traveled there, is married to a Haitian, etc.) and wants to send a square, we'll welcome it.

If you have any questions, please email us at info@kci1804.com or call 954-889-7787.
